Zan hangs with the Comic Book Queers!

Zan and the CBQZan journeyed to Chicago this weekend to visit with pals, take in the nightlife, and hang with the Comic Book Queers! A newly blond Zan appeared at Wicker Park’s Brainstorm Movies, Comics and Games to take part in CBQ’s podcast recording session, which will be released as a future episode.

Oh, here we go.

I just installed this little application on my phone called “Twinkle” which lets me participate in the whole crazy Twitter thing really easily. I think I’ll try it out until I get bored of it (probably due to seeing something shiny).

If you want, you can “spy” on me. Head over to my Twitter page and lick the link to Follow me.

Mark of Aeacus is nominated for a 2008 Queerie!

Thanks to any and all who wrote in to the Comic Book Queers to nominate The Mark of Aeacus! I just got an email from Brian Andersen, the creator of the sublime So Super Duper, to let me know that we have both been nominated in the “Best Queer Indie Book” category.

Voting is now open, and I urge each and every one of you to head over and cast your vote!

2008 Queeries!!

Zan at WonderConI’ve been waiting and waiting for the latest episode of the Comic Book Queers podcast, and the new one got posted a few days ago.

In addition to the joy of hearing the boys talk about comics and ass and Brenda Dickson and all the other great things, they mentioned that the nominations are open for the 2008 Queerie Awards, which are their ultra-fabulous awards for queer comics released in 2007.

I’m not quite brazen enough to do it myself, but The Mark of Aeacus and myself fit quite nicely into a few of the award categories, and I certainly wouldn’t object to someone writing in and nominating us…

Best Out Queer Creator
(If you’re a huge fan)

Best Queer Indie Book
(Class Comics is certainly still indie at this point!)

Creator Who Looks Most Like they Would Have a Manly but Alluring Scent, Like the Smell of the Forest, or in the Case of Women, Like that of a Beautiful English Tea Garden
(Self-explanatory.)

There’s already some formidable nominations in each of these categories but, as they say, it’s an honor to be nominated, so nominate me, y’all!

Eleven Pages

Three years ago, I started work on a comics project that didn’t work out. I returned to the idea this past year and have been developing it into a prose novel. Kind of a big deal for me, since it will be my first solo longform fiction work, having worked on collaborative projects (comics, stage and film scripts) over the years.

I called the site Eleven Pages, after the target length for a chapter. It’s my way of reminding myself that I never have very far to go to make progress.

Please check out the site, read the chapters, register, and comment if you like what you read. Writing a novel is a solitary business, and it’s nice to be able to have support along the way!

Aeacus reviewed on the Gay Comics List

Getting read to lay down the goon hand…Françoid Peneaud—the writer of another Class Comics’ recent release, Brother to Dragons—has just posted a review of The Mark of Aeacus on his site, The Gay Comics List. Anyone who’s been to the site knows that François has reviewed just about queer comic under the sun, so he’s seen his fair share of the good and the bad.

Seems that he puts Aeacus into the former! :-D

(And if you haven’t read Brother to Dragons yet, I can wholeheartedly recommend it. In the first issue, it manages to introduce you to complex new world, get a number of plot points going, and still feel unhurried. A feat in itself, before you even consider the fact that there’s a lot of intense, man-to-man sex going on.)

The Canadian Dollar is Strong…

Upon re-reading my contract with Class Comics a few months ago, I was pleased to note that the advance that Mark and I were getting against sales of The Mark of Aeacus was in US dollars and not Canadian. Of course, the difference was pretty small, but it was still higher than if it had been in Canuck Cash.

The Canadian dollar is now worth $1.02 as I write this. Those precious pennies that might have been! O, weep!

Steve took another look at the requirements for Canadian residency the other day. Turns out Mr. I’m-a-Nurse is a hot commodity up North. Maybe I should learn to ski…

CBQ reviews The Mark of Aeacus

CBQ LogoEveryone’s favorite queer comics podcast, Comic Book Queers, reviewed The Mark of Aeacus on its last episode, The Cher Witch Project.

If you don’t listen to this show regularly, you should, even when they don’t talk about my book. ;-)

Zan Interviewed in London by Alex Fitch

The WallIn addition to having lots of cider in pubs (apparently all the rage is to drink your cider with ice, now) and taking a “flight” on the London Eye (which is not just a prop in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer), I also got to spend some time with comics journo Alex Fitch while I was in London last month.

We sat down for a cup of tea at the charming queer hangout First Out in SoHo and talked about mythology, superheroes and the gays.

The show was broadcast on Resonance FM in the UK, but time differences being what they were, I was unable to catch the webcast. (I think I was driving to work at the time.)

But now we can all check it out on Alex’s Blog!
